OVERVIEW

The Products Control department at the Detroit Refinery is seeking candidates for an opening in the Planning and Economics group. The Planning group is responsible for optimizing refinery operations, developing short and long range production forecasts, feedstock scheduling, product production and scheduling, project analysis, and intermediate inventory management. All members of the team are expected to be actively engaged in ensuring all products meet specifications. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to interact with and influence many areas of the company. The group works closely with Operations and Technical Services to understand unit constraints and communicate the economic drivers of each of the operating areas. The team also works directly with Global Feedstock and Midwest Clean Product Value Chains, Asphalt Supply and Logistics, Refining Staff, and Product Quality to evaluate opportunities on feedstocks, products, and inter-refinery transfers. The team interacts routinely with MPLX and other pipeline companies along with both the corporate truck and rail groups to ensure ratable movements of all feedstocks and products.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will initially be trained to use the refinery linear program (PIMS). After mastering the linear program the individual is expected to serve as the short-term forecaster. Responsibilities of the position include:

Issue four month forecast on a weekly basis. Review unit and tank farm constraints, market prices, product demands, and feedstock availability as a part of the forecast process.
Work with Tech Service and Operations to identify and optimize around unit constraints.
Issue the daily unit target sheet.
Explain forecast variances, evaluate feedstock and product opportunities, and run sensitivities as needed.
Provide incremental economics on a weekly basis to support optimization efforts within the refinery.
Perform ad hoc analysis to guide business decisions around outages and slow downs.
Analyze capital project value and provide transparent economics.
Support refinery HESS initiatives including performing incident investigations.
Serve on the refinery quality team.
Post audit LP results vs. actual results to ensure model accuracy.
Provide backup coverage for the Light oil and Black oil coordinators.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Degree:
Bachelor of Science

Major Discipline:
Chemical Engineering or other Technical Discipline
Years Experience Required:
A minimum of 4 years Refinery process experience is preferred
