Claims Assistant

The Claims Assistant (CA) works as a critical part of a team that serves Veterans. The CA must effectively communicate and interact with Veterans and other claimants, stakeholders, and fellow employees on their team and throughout VBA. The CA duties include, but are not limited to:
Manage files/records by adding, retrieving, or removing information in order to maintain accurate records; Analyze and interpret complex information; Respond in writing to inquiries or requests for information; Compose correspondence or other written work to obtain evidence Concerning requests; Respond orally to inquiries or requests for information to individuals and groups. Respond in writing to inquiries or request for information Compose corresponding or other written work to obtain evidence concerning requests Process forms, records and other documents to complete the application process Greet visitors to create a favorable impression for the organization To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/18/2019. Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:
Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. If you are a current VBA employee outside of the commuting area seeking a reassignment or change to lower grade via this vacancy announcement, you must currently hold the GS-06 (or higher) and the promotion potential of your current position must be at least GS-05. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Experience:
You must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. For GS-05; you must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. For GS-06; you must have one year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for the GS-05 grade level, you must have four years above high school. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of experience and education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, work independently, and adjust to changing situations Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note:
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The work is sedentary. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending or carrying of light items such as papers and books. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
